A lake wind advisory is in effect until 6 PM cdt this evening. I was up until 1 am working on the Town Hall kit. It turned out pretty good. Still have to black out the inside. I may start work on the engine house kit later today depending on how I feel. It'll be a pretty complex build. I received a few city accessory kits (Walther's #933-3535) in the mail yesterday. I'll be starting on them in the near future and there's a Gorre and Daphetid boxcar kit on the way. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 4/2/2009

Good morning. It's 66 and cloudy. The high will be around 83 and it will be partly cloudy. Looked at the road damage to the bottom of my car yesterday. Looks like one of the power steering lines was torn open. Looks like the low pressure line. That means it can be easily fixed. Problem is I can't get at it until I can get the car over a pit or a ditch. Being that the ditch is the more practical choice (and the closest) I'll have to wait for it to dry out some. We got about four days worth of rain in ten hours yesterday so the ditches were running level with the roads for a while and in some places the roads were underwater. I did a little more work on the covered hopper and made it a little grimier. Looks like I may be mowing my sisters yard today. Her mower still won't start. As for what else I'll be doing today, it's an open book. I'll know when I get there. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 5/4/2009

Today High: 85 Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 80s. Northwest winds around 5 mph.

Good morning. It's 64 and partly cloudy. The high should be around 90 and it will be partly cloudy. Finally got the tools and debris cleared off the layout yesterday so maybe I can get down to some running of the trains later. I have to mow my sisters yard this morning as there's rain due for the next couple of days. I'll probably be going to Alexandria later to raid Hobby Lobby. The LHS isn't open on Monday. On the foot surgery thing I'm considering having it done. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 6/1/2009

Good morning. It's 76 and cloudy. The high will be in the high 90's and it will be partly cloudy. It goes without saying that it's gonna be another hot one today. I spent part of yesterday working on a covered hopper I got from a friend in Canada. It went from bright, shiny and new looking to dull, flat and rusty in a matter of a few hours. To say that I had fun doing this is an understatement. I had a blast. I did have to do some minor repair work on it as I went along. One of the body end panels had come loose and had to be glued back in place. One of the coupler pocket covers had broken off and had to be carefully glued back in place. The brake wheel had come off and had to be put back in place. I removed the walkway so I could paint it rail brown without getting paint on the hatch covers then carefully reattached it. Nothing escaped the weathering. Today I'll be doing a little work at my parents home then I'll be back here to work on the layout some more. I have a boxcar that's showing it's hind end and ticking me off. I suspect it has an axle binding. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 7/1/2009
Heat Index: 79°F Humidity: 78% Dew Point: 68°F
So Far Today High: 78°F Low: 74°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 6mph N
Today High: 100 Increasing clouds. Highs around 100. Northwest winds around 5 mph in the morning becoming southeast in the afternoon.
Tonight Low: 72 Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 70s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

Good morning. It's 76 and cloudy. The high should be around 90 and there's a chance of rain. Got a little more work done on the Schultz's garage kit last night. I painted the trim white and the window frames green. The doors received a second coat of buff white. I got time yesterday to go to the local scrap yard to get a starter for my car. The overrun clutch on the old starter is bad. This causes the starter to disengage after only a second or two. Sometimes it's enough time for the engine to start and sometimes not. Either way it's mostly irritating. Now I just need the time to change the starter out. I know that sounds simple but there's a skid plate that needs to come off first. I also found out yesterday that my floor jack has a bad seal so using it is out of the question. I do however have a solution. There's a terrace wall at the bottom of one of my parent's two driveways that has a 6 inch drop on the far side. I can park the car so the front wheels are on the wall (ground level on one side). The car is front wheel drive with the engine set forward of the axle center line and the starter is on the front side of the engine, so I should be able to get to it easily. The hard part will be removing the aforementioned skid plate not to mention putting it back on. The starter itself is a snap to replace. There are only 2 bolts that hold it in place and they both go in vertically. Can you tell I've done this before? Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 8/1/2009
Heat Index: 82°F Humidity: 99% Dew Point: 76°F
So Far Today High: 77°F Low: 76°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 3mph NNE
Today High: 92 Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then a 50 percent chance in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 90s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight Low: 75 Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the mid 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.

Good morning. It's 66 and clear. The high will be around 86 and it will be partly cloudy. Went to see the foot doc yesterday to fill out the paperwork for the upcoming foot operation. That took from 9:30 to 11:45. The operation is scheduled to take place the morning of September 8th at the Deer Creek Doctor's Hospital in Leesville. No layout work yesterday as I basically just took the rest of the day off. Today I'll start work on a DPM kit I painted last month. After it's done I have one that I received in the mail yesterday that need's painting. Those DPM kits are easy to put to put together but they're a pain in the butt to paint. However the level of detail is acceptable. I also have some clouds that can stand to be redone as the edges appear to be just a tad too sharp. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 9/1/2009
Wind Chill: 66°F Humidity: 69% Dew Point: 56°F
So Far Today High: 71°F Low: 66°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 9mph ENE
Today High: 85 Sunny. Highs in the mid 80s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight Low: 60 Clear. Lows around 60. Northeast winds around 5 mph.

Good morning.
It's 62 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 70's and there's a chance of rain.
My vision seems to be just a slight bit clearer this morning. Today I have to go the hospital to keep an appointment with nuclear medicine. They'll draw some blood so they can tag the white cells. Tomorrow they'll inject the blood back in then do a bone scan to see if the tagged cells congregate anyplace. They'll go to wherever an infection is present. I had a regular bone scan some time back but this one is much more detailed. Comparing the two would be like comparing a drawing of a house done by a 5 year old to a drawing done by a professional architect. The difference can be that dramatic. Some bad news on the parent's home front. Last night my mother had to be taken to the ER for examination and observation. She fell and cracked her head again. It doesn't look to be as serious this time but they're not taking any chances.

Good morning. It's 47 and clear with a nice looking full moon. The high will get up to about 72 and it will remain clear. Got up this morning and turned the heater on for about 10 minutes to take the chill off. I don't really have much planned for today with the exception of using some of my alcohol/black acrylic weathering agent to weather some freight cars. I have to mix up a new batch of the stuff first. It took me about half an hour to find the squeeze bottle of FolkArt pure black paint last night. I was thinking I might have to go to Wal-Mart to get a new one. I looked for it in all the usual places then remembered I'd put it in an Atlas box on top of the refrigerator. Sure enough, there it was. I shook it to make sure it's still liquid. It's still good. I've had instances where the paint had dried in the bottle. If I had to get another bottle it wouldn't be too bad. It's less than $2 for a 2 ounce bottle. I must remember though to mix it with the 70% alcohol. The 91% stuff does strange and not so wonderful things to the cars paint job, like remove it.

Good morning. It's 45 and cloudy. The high will be in the low 50's and the outlook says we'll be having rain today. Well today is that day of the month we all love to hate. Bill paying day. I've already been out to pay the bills for the electricity, car insurance, loans, credit cards, cable and satellite. That should keep the wolves away from the door for another month. I'm just taking time now to let my ankle recover from all that activity. The Home Health nurse comes around at 1 pm and I may be making a trip to Alexandria later. That of course depends on how my ankle feels.

Good morning. It's 31 and partly cloudy. The high will be in the low 50's and there's a chance of a bit of snow and rain this morning. Looks like we may be in for a bit of the white stuff falling from the sky this morning. Sure hope that goes somewhere else real quick! We don't need snow here. Oh sure the kids would love it, especially if it gets them out of school for a bit, but what about those of up who have to drive on it. I'll have to leave my nephew off that list. He'll just get his little redneck hunting buggy out and go spin donuts with the emergency brake locked. One of the items on my personal projects list is to get a USB IDE hard drive enclosure to put my data drive in. Wal-Mart doesn't carry such an item and the computer shop is out of them at this time. I may just have to wait until they order more. The IDE ones sell out fast. Right now I'm using the data drive with a USB to IDE cable kit but there's no enclosure to put it in.

Good morning. It's 35 with a rain and snow mix. The high will be around 50 and it will will be cloudy. I'm able to read somewhat better today for about 8 to 10 minutes at a time. That's better than it was yesterday for sure. I'm hoping this clears up soon. To say that it's aggravating is an understatement to say the least. I'm debating on whether or not to go into town today and pay some bills that can't be paid any other way or hold off until tomorrow when I have to go into town anyway for my doctor appointment. I know it would be better to consolidate all the errands into one trip but I'm feeling rather like the Vontage gnome in those cabin fever commercials when he says I've got to get out of here. There's also the grocery shopping to consider.

Good morning. It's 46 and cloudy with rain imminent. The high will be 50 with a 90% chance of rain. Gonna be a wet one today! And why not? This is the day I gotta go out and pay bills. Yesterday I put up four more of the solar Tiki torches. That's a total of eight now. On two of them I took out the factory installed NiCd batteries which are rated at 1.2 V, 600 mA and replaced them with Eveready NiMH batteries rated at 1.2 V, 230 mA. Just after sunset all eight lights came on as they should. Six ran down during the night and went out but the two with the NiMH batteries were still lit up at 6:45 this morning and didn't go off until sunrise. Take a wild guess at what kind of batteries are going into the others. I figure the NiCd batteries will work OK in my remotes, postal scale, LED tester and magnifier. Nothing much on the schedule today except paying some bills that can't be paid by mail or internet and I have to get the grocery shopping done before my cupboards look like those of Mrs Hubbard. I may be able to get some more weathering practice in today but it'll probably be late.
