Todays trip to Russell was a big one...... It started off at Burnaugh, KY, on the way, where an SD70MAC P-II (4780), and an AC44 (271), are stopped waiting on a southbound Ballast Train, which came right after my mom got back on the road, to come through. Then I moved on to Russell, KY, where I stopped at the old C&O freight depot in town, a few minutes after I arrived, a local from the AK Steel plant in Ashland, came in with a RDSLUG (2243), and a GP40-2 (6473), with mostly scrap metal: Then as I headed back down toward Big Sandy Junction, I saw an oncoming train, I leaned out of the car, moving 55 mph, to get this shot, the locos are AC44 (389), C40-8 (7626), and a GP40-2 (6279, not seen). Then we went down to Big Sandy Junction, where right after we got there, an eastbound grain train came flying toward us, the locos were a C40-8 (7579), and a CW40-8 (7817) And next, my catch of the day: newly renumbered CSX 4500, the Spirit Of Cumberland: the Spirit unit was on a southbound empty hopper train, along with AC44 #566 Close Up of the new number, taken from the Catlettsburg Amtrak Station And then as we headed home, I caught a northbound coal train at Kermit, WV, led by a pair of C40-9W's (9928, 9286), and an SD70M (2639)
