There was a station called Kittaning Point up until about 1940. That was back when the Pennsylvania Railroad was running on this mountain grade. Kittaning Point got its name from Kittaning Mountain. When the Pennsylvania Railroad was built the nose of Kittaning Mountain was shaved off to put in the track. Today most folks just call this place Horseshoe Curve. Photo from July 7, 1997.

I don't know the exact speed but it was going fast! There were four head locos, 2 Norfolk Southerns, one BNSF, and one ex-conrail
