Here is a Terry A. Kirkland photo from Florida. Terry was born and raised in TEXAS, but Florida was high on his list of places to visit and take train photos. He was stationed in Florida during his time in the Army 1970-1971. As the subject suggests there will be many more of these. Terry really liked Florida.

Alex that little critter is a MATE road slug built special by GE to use with the U36Bs. The U36Bs put out a lot of power, but it made the units "slippery" as all that power could not be used at low speed. The MATEs were hooked up to the U36Bs to use up some of their extra energy. These U36B-MATE-U18B sets were used to haul phosphate in Florida.

Looks like the MATEs were SCL #3200-3224 and then renumbered to SBD #5200-5224. See Craig Rutherford's Diesel Shop roster at www.thedieselshop.us/SBD.HTML
