Went back to Russell Yard/ Big Sandy Junction area today, and like usual, action was a plenty.
Day started off on the way at Burnaugh, KY, thank god my mom had to use the bathroom at McDonalds at Louisa, KY, or we would have been ahead of this train and not seen it.
Interesting power, a loaded coal train with a CW40-8 (7914) and an SD50 (8519) on it.
Then we after a side trip to Huntington Mall, we went by Big Sandy Junction on the way to Russell Yard. There we saw a pair of AC44's (289, 319) backing to its train about a mile behind the junction. These locomotives had refueled in Huntington, WV, about 15 miles away, due to congestion in Russell Yard.
Then we finally got to the Russell Yard, where I saw the congestion, here, a loaded coal train with an SD70MAC T-II (4778) and an AC44 (510), lead a train toward Big Sandy Junction, on the other side of these locos, a pair of AC44's, which you will see a pic of later, have Q696, with only 30 cars, waiting to go as well.
Right after that train passes, I decided to take a pic of the Old Russell Dispatcher's office (Now abandoned)
Then I headed on up to the Russell Locomotive shops, where I caught a badly faded RDSLUG (2283), strangely missing it's mate (so that means that 6417) was probably somewhere in Russell Yard. The track in the foreground is a locomotive service connector track back to the main yard.
Then I went back to Big Sandy Junction, where another southbound came out of Russell after the other 2 trains. A Grain train led by 2 ES44DC's (5378, 5272) goes up the hill on the junction and heads east toward Huntington
And finally, on the way home, we caught up with the Q696 i mentioned earlier, led by a pair of AC44's (469, 407) heading south toward Louisa.
Thanks for looking ;D
